This may include:
- Your name;
- Email address;
- Billing address;
- Country, province or state, city and postal code;
- Telephone number, if provided;
- Account username and password information;
- Products purchased;
- Coupon or discount information;

Laurie Schamber may receive transaction information such as the payment status, transaction identifier, payment method type and limited payment details needed to confirm or refund an order. Complete payment-card numbers and card security codes are not directly received or stored by Laurie Schamber.
Information collected automatically
When you visit or use the Website, hosting, security and Website systems may automatically record:
- Internet Protocol address;
- Browser and device type;
- Operating system;
- Date and time of access;
- Pages requested;
- Referring page or website;
- Login and account activity;
- Shopping-cart and checkout activity;
- Download requests;
- Security events and error logs; and
- Cookie or session identifiers.
This information is used to operate, secure and troubleshoot the Website.
3. How Personal Information Is Used
Personal information may be used to:
- Process and confirm orders;
- Calculate and collect applicable taxes;
- Create and administer customer accounts;
- Deliver purchased products;
- Generate purchaser-specific EPUB files;
- Enforce download limits and expiry periods;
- Send order, account, password-reset and download emails;
- Respond to questions and support requests;
- Investigate failed downloads, fraud, chargebacks or unauthorized access;
- Process refunds or payment reversals;
- Maintain accounting, tax and transaction records;
- Protect copyright and investigate suspected unauthorized distribution;
- Secure, maintain and improve the Website;
- Comply with legal obligations; and
- Establish, exercise or defend legal rights.
Personal information will not be used for a materially different purpose without appropriate notice or consent unless otherwise permitted or required by law.
4. Purchaser-Specific EPUB Watermarking
When an eBook is purchased, the Website generates a purchaser-specific EPUB from a privately stored master file.
The personalized EPUB may contain:
- The purchaser’s name;
- A masked version of the purchaser’s email address;
- The order number;
- A unique traceable identifier;
- A personal digital-licence page; and
- Embedded identifiers in the EPUB’s metadata and internal files.
The Website retains information connecting the unique identifier with the applicable WooCommerce order. This permits a copy to be traced to the purchasing account if it is later found to have been distributed without authorization.
The watermarking system does not monitor reading activity, inspect the purchaser’s device or transmit information after the EPUB has been downloaded.
The personalized information is included to administer the licence, provide secure delivery, discourage unauthorized sharing and protect the author’s copyright.
5. Legal Basis and Consent
Personal information is collected, used and disclosed with consent, where consent is required, or where otherwise permitted by applicable law.
When you voluntarily provide information to create an account, complete a purchase or request assistance, you consent to its reasonable use for those purposes.
Certain information is necessary to process an order, deliver a product, maintain transaction records or prevent fraud. If you do not provide the required information, the Website may be unable to complete the transaction or provide the requested service.
You may withdraw consent to an optional use by contacting laurieschamber@gmail.com, subject to legal, contractual and technical restrictions. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that was lawful before consent was withdrawn.
6. Service Providers and Disclosures
Personal information may be provided to service providers only to the extent reasonably necessary for them to perform services connected with the Website.
These providers may include:
- Website hosting, storage, backup and security providers;
- WordPress and WooCommerce services;
- WooPayments and its payment-processing partners;
- Banks, card networks and financial institutions;
- Google or Gmail services used to send transactional email;
- Tax, accounting or professional advisers; and
- Technical-support providers assisting with Website operation.
Service providers may process information under their own terms and privacy policies.
Personal information may also be disclosed where reasonably necessary to:
- Comply with a law, court order or lawful government request;
- Investigate fraud, unauthorized transactions or security incidents;
- Enforce a contract or protect intellectual-property rights;
- Respond to a payment dispute or chargeback;
- Protect the safety, rights or property of a person; or
- Complete a business reorganization or transfer, subject to applicable privacy requirements.
Personal information is not sold or rented.
7. International Processing
Some Website, payment, hosting, email or technology providers may process or store information outside British Columbia or Canada, including in the United States.
Information processed in another jurisdiction may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction and may be accessible to courts, law-enforcement agencies or government authorities where legally permitted.
Reasonable steps are taken to use reputable providers and limit the information disclosed to what is necessary for the relevant service.
8. Cookies
The Website uses cookies and similar technologies where necessary to operate functions such as:
- Shopping carts;
- Checkout;
- Customer accounts;
- Login sessions;
- Security and fraud prevention;
- Website preferences; and
- Order and download administration.
Some cookies are necessary for the Website and store to function correctly.
You may configure your browser to reject or delete cookies. Disabling necessary cookies may prevent the shopping cart, checkout, account or download functions from working properly.
The Website does not currently use personal information for targeted behavioural advertising. If advertising or additional analytics services are introduced, this policy and any applicable cookie notice will be updated.
9. Transactional and Marketing Email
Transactional emails may be sent when necessary to administer an account or purchase, including:
- Account-creation messages;
- Password-reset messages;
- Order confirmations;
- Payment or refund notices;
- Download instructions; and
- Responses to support requests.
These operational messages are not optional while they are necessary to complete or support a transaction.
Promotional or marketing emails will only be sent where permitted by law. You may unsubscribe from promotional messages using the link provided in the message or by contacting laurieschamber@gmail.com.
Unsubscribing from marketing does not prevent necessary transactional or account-related emails.
10. Retention
Personal information is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy or as required by law.
Order and payment records may be retained to meet tax, accounting, consumer-protection, fraud-prevention and legal requirements.
Account information may remain until the account is deleted, subject to information that must be retained in transaction or legal records.
Watermark and licence records may be retained for as long as reasonably necessary to identify licensed copies, administer purchases and protect intellectual-property rights.
Information that is no longer required will be deleted, anonymized or securely disposed of where reasonably practicable.
11. Security
Reasonable administrative, technical and physical safeguards are used to protect personal information against unauthorized access, collection, use, disclosure, alteration, loss or disposal.
These measures may include:
- Encrypted Website connections;
- Password-protected administrative access;
- Restricted storage of protected master EPUB files;
- Reputable payment processing;
- Website security and software updates; and
- Access controls appropriate to the information involved.
No website, email service, payment system or electronic storage method can be guaranteed completely secure. If a privacy or security incident creates a legal notification obligation, affected individuals and the appropriate authorities will be notified as required.
12. Access, Correction and Deletion Requests
You may make a written request to:
- Ask whether personal information about you is held;
- Request access to personal information under Laurie Schamber’s control;
- Ask how that information has been used or disclosed;
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete information;
- Request deletion of information that is no longer required; or
- Raise a concern about the handling of your information.
Send requests to laurieschamber@gmail.com with enough detail to identify the account, order or information involved.
Identity may need to be verified before a request is completed. Access or deletion may be limited where retention or refusal is authorized or required by law, including where information must be preserved for tax, transaction, fraud-prevention, legal or intellectual-property purposes.
13. Account Closure
You may request closure of your customer account by contacting laurieschamber@gmail.com.
Closing an account may prevent further access to purchased downloads. Information contained in completed orders, payment records, refund records and purchaser-specific licence records may still be retained where reasonably necessary or legally required.
Download the purchased file before requesting account closure if you wish to retain your licensed personal copy.
14. External Services and Links
The Website may link to third-party websites or services, including payment processors, social-media platforms, book retailers and Send to Kindle.
Third-party websites operate under their own privacy policies and terms. Laurie Schamber is not responsible for the privacy or security practices of an independently operated third-party service.
15. Children’s Privacy
The Website and books concerning criminal proceedings are intended for mature readers and are not directed to children.
Personal information is not knowingly collected from children except where permitted by law and with any consent that may be required. A parent or guardian who believes a child has provided personal information may contact laurieschamber@gmail.com.
16. Privacy Complaints
Privacy questions or complaints should first be sent to laurieschamber@gmail.com. The concern will be reviewed and answered within a reasonable period.
If a privacy concern is not resolved, you may have the right to contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, depending on which law applies.
17. Changes to This Policy
This policy may be updated when Website practices, products, service providers or legal requirements change.
The revised policy will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date. Material changes may also be communicated through the Website or by another appropriate method.
